How to draw, Forest at Sunset - soft pastel & Oil pastel

ABOUT THIS DRAWING

I see many people drawing sunlight with oil painting. But I thought if I could draw it with soft pastel with the help of oil pastel so it would be more challenging art work. So it’s basically a painting of sunlight in the forest. Choosing forest is more challenging because you have to work on many criteria in the drawing. You have to work on the trees, road and many more things along with the sunlight. So for me this is what a painter wants to do, making verity of concept together with their limitless imagination. That’s why I think you will all love this one.

TOOLS: white art paper, soft pastel, soft pencil, oil pastel.

HOW TO DRAW STEP BY STEP

STEP 1: As we are drawing sunset in the forest we have to understand the fact of light source. Then we can express properly the sunlight with dark and light effect. Here I have chosen the light source in the little leftward of the middle according to my imagination of the road.

Then use very light yellow leaving some area blank it will give you the proper lightness. Now here light is spreading in all the forest from the light source so that’s why I put deep yellow and pink. Then mix the color by rubbing with your finger. Here the deep color actually expressing the light interestingly. Actually the deep color has been used to show the light in the forest so it is little low in the brightness.

Remember this step is the most important step in the full drawing. If you mess up in this step then your drawing is going in a wrong way.

STEP 2: Now we have the base of colors of sunlight. But it is very light. So to make the beautiful verity in the sky of sunlight along with the forest we have to put colors such as orange and red leaving some areas at the sides. Then rub it smoothly.(see the snap)

Now the road part, as the golden effect of the sunlight also falls in the road, the color of the road turns into golden and reddish effect of a very beautiful sunlight. For that use yellow, red and orange .And very little blue in the middle part of the road .Obviously there should have some grass on the roadside, for that I put green and little blue also. And rub the colors gently.

STEP 3:Now if you remember that I told to leave some are in the STEP 2, so very interestingly that had some cause. We will have to make the dark effects in the trees in the forest that’s why we had left some area there. Then use blue and red mixing the colors with fingers for the dark effect

STEP 4: Here I used very interesting method that very few people do that is using oil pastel on soft pastel .So for trees in the front use black oil pastel and for trees in the far away use black soft pastel pencil.

SREP 5: Now draw more trees with light blue and black on where we have drawn the grass. After that make leaves with blue black and green.

Step 6: Then lastly draw two more tree with blue and black in the very front to open the beauty of the painting.

Then give more touch ups with care in the grass, road, forest and also in the leaves.
